On Thursday 28.09.2017 WESA had the honor of hosting the biggest utility company in Denmark and the largest offshore wind farm developer, DONG Energy. Nicolai Gayle Nygaard (Lead wind energy specialist) and Jesper Skov Gretlund (Senior manager), visited WESA - Wind Energy Student Association at Technical University of Denmark, DTU and presented the profile of DONG and its activities around the world in front of more than 80 students. In addition, they provided students with information regarding foundation improving technologies for offshore wind turbines and shared their knowledge on data analysis for the development of offshore wind farms.
Students were also given a very interesting challenge directly related to their wind studies. More specifically, students were given the opportunity to participate in a contest regarding the visualization of data acquired from 2 radars scanning DONG Energy's Westermost Rough offshore wind farm. This challenge will help students enhance their quantitative skills by interpreting big data sets and visualizing them optimally, giving wind engineers the opportunity of exploiting their huge untapped potential.
Furthermore, Mette (HR graduate) and Marijn (DONG graduate program participant) connected with the students and gave them information, as well as advice, on how to be prepared for their professional future.
The audience, consisting of master students specialized in wind energy from all over the globe, was thrilled and greatly satisfied by the presentation of DONG professionals. Students expressed their desire and anticipation for more great events like this one in the future.
